Far-right members of Mr Netanyahu's governing coalition had demanded a spot on the war cabinet following a set of resignations
Benjamin Netanyahu told his security cabinet on Sunday that he had officially disbanded the cabinet, days after Benny Gantz, another member of the war cabinet and a rival of Mr Netanyahu, left the coalition over a rift with the prime minister. Gadi Eisenkot, his fellow war cabinet member, also withdrew from the coalition. Mr Gantz meanwhile urged the defence minister, Yoav Gallant, to follow him, and called for elections.Mr Ben-Gvir responded to the resignations by appealing to join the war cabinet, saying: “The time has come to make brave decisions, achieve real deterrence and bring security to the residents of the south, the north, and Israel as a whole.
