Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has fired Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, claiming trust between them had eroded.
The Prime Minister of Israel has made some drastic changes to his cabinet overnight, announcing Defence Minister Yoav Gallant had been fired in a video posted to social media.reported Gallant was given a letter by the Prime Minister stating his tenure would “end 48 hours from the receipt of this letter". Netanyahu pictured speaking at joint meeting of Congress in Washington DC back in July.
“Unfortunately, although in the first months of the war there was trust and there was very fruitful work, during the last months this trust cracked between me and the Defence Minister,” Netanyahu said in the clip.“The security of the State of Israel was and will always remain the mission of my life,” he wrote, adding two Israeli flag emojis.
Israeli Opposition Leader Yair Lapid also reacted to the news of the cabinet reshuffle, characterising the decision to fire Gallant during a war as an “act of madness”. In Washington, a spokesperson for the White House National Security Council said Gallant had been an important partner and that it would continue working collaboratively with Katz.
