Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell says Gladys Berejiklian’s mistake of not locking down harder and earlier is costing the nation.

This comes as Victoria will exit its fifth lockdown from midnight tonight as Premier Daniel Andrews announced earlier on Tuesday.

“Same variant, Delta, they got in hard, they got in early. I’ve been saying this about Berejiklian for some time, she didn’t,” Mr Clennell said.“There is no way to spin these numbers, she is in deep trouble. And because she is, so is the state and so is the country.” New South Wales on Tuesday recorded a further 172 new COVID-19 cases, its highest during the course of the outbreak.
