Tributes are pouring in for Gold Coast shark attack victim Nick Slater, with devastated friends revealing how they found out he had died.
A friend of Mr Slater’s, Jasmine Robson, took to Facebook to express her anguish, saying “It is so hard 2 comprehend that out of all the blokes in the line-up yesterday, that Shark picked the best 1.”“I’ll never 4get the look on Dave’s face as we found your car last night alone in the car park, confirmation of our worst nightmare.
“As tragic as this all is, we know you died doing something you loved, surfing ‘Beaver Creek’. We hope it was quick and painless buddy. Forever in our hearts. XOXO”.Floral tributes have been placed for Mr Slater at Greenmount Beach.
“It is with such regret to advise that our mate Nick was tragically taken from us in a shark attack yesterday,” the band wrote on Facebook.“To all that surfed, worked, lived and partied with Nick over the years, please take some time today to reflect on this life and the great times we shared with him.”
“RIP Nick my thoughts are with your family and friends. Such sad news. Nick was a great guy and a customer who picked up a new log only last week,” he wrote.

Surfer killed in shark attack on the Gold Coast | Sky News AustraliaA surfer has been mauled to death by a great white shark in Queensland, marking the first fatal shark attack on a netted Gold Coast beach in more than 60 years. \n\nA fellow surfer noticed 46-year-old Nick Slater face down in the water next to his longboard at Greenmount Beach in Coolangatta yesterday at about 5pm. \n\nA group of surfers dragged him to the beach where paramedics attempted to resuscitate him but were unable to do so. \n\nThe incident will likely reignite the debate around the state’s controversial shark net and shark drumline program which was introduced in the 1960s in an attempt to reduce the number of fatal shark attacks. \n\nAll beaches from Burleigh to the border will be closed while air and sea patrols continue to search for the shark. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia
