Better Call Saul star Rhea Seehorn explains why a scene from the series finale, which has been debated by viewers, was filmed, but ultimately cut.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Better Call Saul star Rhea Seehorn finally confirms a key finale scene was cut after debates from fans of the show. It's in the series finale that Seehorn's Kim Wexler is leaving after visiting Jimmy McGill in prison, having been sentenced to what well might end up being a life sentence but is in relatively good spirits after confessing to his crimes and redeeming himself to an extent.
Now, after much debate about Better Call Saul's finale finger guns, Seehorn revealed to Variety that a shot of Kim returning the finger gun gesture was filmed but ultimately cut. In the interview, conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike, and which also included Odenkirk, Giancarlo Esposito , and show co-creator Peter Gould, Seehorn said that she felt sad about the shot being removed but explained why it was the right decision.
At first, I was like sad [that it was removed] because I’m a hopeless romantic. But [exec producer] Peter [Gould] said, ‘we watched it, and it looked like Kim was back in the game, rather than Kim is saying I’m there for you forever.’ And I said oh yeah, I don’t want that. It was the right decision.
Better Call Saul Made The Right Decision The finger guns have always been particularly significant in terms of what they mean for Better Call Saul, being a bit of bravado for Jimmy's Saul Goodman persona. But it gains extra significance as of the Better Call Saul season 5 finale, in which Kim does the gesture for Jimmy.
Better Call Saul's series finale, instead, is beautifully open-ended. Seehorn has said that she thinks Kim continues to visit Jimmy in prison, in addition to continuing her work as a lawyer and helping to reduce his sentence. Odenkirk, in contrast, has expressed a different view on the finale, feeling their scene "really is a goodbye" for them both.
