If Nick Cotric is balking at a deal worth more than $500,000 a year at Canberra, you have to wonder what Parramatta cult hero Maika Sivo is worth?
The same Eels fans who chant "Sivo" every time he scores at Bankwest Stadium will also be hoping the blue and golds do not give rival clubs any chance to lure him away from the western suburbs once he becomes free to negotiate on November 1.
"I feel fit at the moment. I feel better than last year. The [COVID-19] break helped me because I did a lot of running and conditioning. I went home to Gundagai with my family. I also spent time [training] in Wagga."Wingers can demand decent money because of their ability to finish tries, but also start sets on the front foot. Canberra have tabled a five-year deal worth about $2.5 million for Cotric, but the Raiders junior is eyeing a bigger offer from Canterbury.
"Semi was one of the best wingers the game ever saw," Gutherson said. "Maika is only into the second season of his career, he's got a long way to go, but they're both outstanding wingers and great finishers."Sivo said Gutherson had encouraged him to try some backflips as part of his try celebrations, something fellow winger Blake Ferguson is known to do, but "when you're 110kg it can be difficult".
