BHP Nickel West will increase exploration spending to its highest level since 2005 as it seeks to capitalise on demand for electric vehicles.

BHP Nickel West’s exploration spending this year will hit its highest level since 2005 as it moves to capitalise on the soaring demand for electric vehicles.net zero emissions by 2050BHP Nickel West’s Jessica Farrell tells the Diggers and Dealers conference in Kalgoorlie on Wednesday that the miner is seeking to capitalise on demand for electric vehicles.

“This is a highly prospective strip, approximately 150 kilometres long ... and has a number of deposits that we are looking to understand further and potentially mine,” she said. Australia’s leading mining forum suffered from WA’s hard borders during the COVID-19 outbreak and this year’s event was the first time in three years it has drawn delegates from around the country.

“We now have nickel supply agreements with Tesla and Toyota … and this month we announced an important new MOU with Ford,” Ms Farrell said.
