BHP profit helps lift Australian shares 0.6pc

The S&P/ASX 200 Index’s biggest stock pushed the benchmark to a rise of 0.6 per cent and 7105.4 points. BHP’s shares firmed 4.1 per cent to $40.51.

Australian shares ended trading 0.6 per cent higher on Tuesday as the country’s biggest listed company, BHP Group, climbed 4.1 per cent to $40.51 after its full-year results smashed expectations.

P/ASX 200 Index added 0.6 per cent to 7105.4; and the All Ordinaries 0.5 per cent to 7361.9. BHP alone added 30 index points.shares rocketed 29.8 per cent to $5.71 after its full-year results promised improved margins ahead for the e-commerce group.Webster now expects profit margins of 3 per cent to 5 per cent from a previous range of 2 per cent to 4 per cent.

SG Fleet reported a 39 per cent increase in net profit to $60.7 million after “strong improvement” in the second half, and used car prices appreciated even further. The company also declared a final dividend of 6.81¢ a share, fully franked, up from 5.39¢ a share.
