Bicyclist, 79, struck by vehicle in San Marcos intersection, sustains life-threatening injuries [Breaking]

A 79-year-old bicyclist sustained life-threatening injuries when he was struck by a vehicle in a San Marcos intersection Tuesday morning, a sheriff’s sergeant said.

The collision happened about 9:15 a.m. at San Marcos Boulevard and Via Vera Cruz, Sgt. Charles Morreale said in a news release. He did not say what preceded the collision. Deputies arrived within two minutes, and found the cyclist had sustained head and leg injuries. He was taken to a hospital.The 23-year-old man who’d been driving the vehicle when the bicyclist was struck was not injured.Witnesses to the collision, or anyone who captured it on a dash-mounted camera or otherwise recorded it, were asked to contact Deputy Jerry Dana at 510-5259, or email him at [email protected].
