President Biden said Friday that he does not take responsibility for the ongoing inflation crisis, claiming the issue existed before he came into office.
President Biden returns to the White House in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 2, 2023, following his holiday vacation in St. Croix.
"Remember what the economy was like when I got here? Jobs were hemorrhaging, inflation was rising. We weren't manufacturing a damn thing here. We were in real economic difficulty. That's why I don't," the president said. The consumer price index for January 2021, when President Biden took office, was 1.4%. The most recent inflation reading, for December 2022, was 6.5% year over year.
