President JoeBiden mistakenly referred to SecDef Lloyd Austin as his secretary of state, also accidentally using Austin's former military title.
Biden made the error while thanking 82nd Airborne Division paratroopers stationed in Rzeszow, Poland, a NATO country, for their service amid the Russian invasion of Ukraine across the border. "The general, secretary of state, asked me if I would send over 12,000 troops," he told members of the Army airborne infantry division Friday."There are 100,000 American forces here now.
Biden earlier dropped into a makeshift barbershop at the G2A Arena next to the Rzeszow-Jasionka Airport while a group of service members was waiting for haircuts from their peers. He also ate a slice of jalapeno pizza with personnel in the cafeteria. "The jalapenos made his eyes water, so he dabbed at them with a napkin and someone got him a glass of water," pool reporter Ashley Parker wrote.
Biden, accompanied by Polish President Andrzej Duda, received a humanitarian response report while in Rzeszow with Secretary of State Antony Blinken and U.S. Agency for International Development Administrator Samantha Power. Poland has cared for an overwhelming number of the almost 4 million refugees who have fled Ukraine since the start of the war last month. Biden announced this week the United States would accept 100,000 Ukrainian refugees to help ease the burden.Biden is expected to fly to the Polish capital of Warsaw Friday evening for more talks with Duda on Saturday, hinting at the possibility he will speak with refugees as well.
