President’s political future remains at center of Democratic turmoil as Trump prepares to give Republican national convention speech
Richard Grenell, a former US ambassador to Germany, has condemned journalists for comparing Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler. Grenell was reflecting on the attempted assassination of the former US president at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. “Let me just step back and just say: I’m really struck this week that we could be having a funeral for Donald Trump,” Grenell told international reporters at a Foreign Press Centers briefing in Milwaukee. I believe that God intervened.
I believe it was a total divine intervention. Grenell, who served as acting director of the national intelligence under Trump, called for the media to help lower the political temperature. I hear a lot of criticism on the left about my party and how words have meaning and I think it’s really important that we all take it down a notch and talk about policies. Certainly, there are some publications in Germany that have been horrific about calling Donald Trump Hitler.
