The terms are simple: Get vaccinated, or be subject to weekly Covid-19 tests.
Under Biden’s new rule, businesses with more than 100 workers must require workers to be vaccinated, and those who are not will be subject to weekly tests for the virus. Companies must allow paid time off for employees to go get vaccinated.
Just 54% of the country’s population is fully vaccinated, and 63% have at least one dose, as of Sept. 8. The rate of vaccination has slowed since an initial rush in the spring. Biden noted during his remarks that nearly 80 million individuals in the U.S. are still not vaccinated. But past vaccine mandates have withstood scrutiny by the Supreme Court, meaning there is already a precedent for Biden to implement such a mandate.
