Title VI of the Civil Rights Act prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color or national origin in federally funded programs.
Title VI doesn't explicitly protect from discrimination based on religion. The clarification focuses on:Citizenship or residency in a country with a dominant religion or distinct religious identities .
Protection when discrimination involves racial, ethnic, ancestral slurs; skin color or other physical features; style of dress; foreign language, accent or name"Loud voices are normalizing this venom, but we must never allow it to become normal," a White House statement said.
