The US President warned Vladimir Putin's latest move was 'the beginning of a Russian invasion on Ukraine'
He flagged the Kremlin were"planning an attack" with an estimation of more than 150,000 troops, along with warplanes and offensive missile systems, positioned in Belarus to attack Ukraine from the north.
Mr Biden was focused on defending freedoms and stressed to Americans he will aim to limit the financial impact on average households but warned gas prices could spike. "The United States and our allies and partners remain open to diplomacy if it is serious," he said in the conclusion of his speech. Following the emergency meeting, the government froze the assets of five banks, along with three Russian billionaires, who will also be hit with UK travel restrictions.
