President Joe Biden spoke to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy by phone Sunday, reaffirming that the U.S. and its allies would respond 'swiftly and decisively' if Russia decides to invade the country.
"President Biden reaffirmed the commitment of the United States to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity" and he "made clear that the United States would respond swiftly and decisively, together with its allies and partners, to any further Russian aggression against Ukraine," according to a White house description of the conversation.
Zelenskyy said in a tweet that he and Biden talked about "security, economy, existing risks, sanctions and Russian aggression." Biden was “clear with President Putin that while the United States remains prepared to engage in diplomacy, in full coordination with our allies and partners, we are equally prepared for other scenarios," the White House said.
