President Biden appealed to U.S. companies “to do the right thing to protect Americans’ health and economy” after the Supreme Court blocked the vaccine mandate.

The response from larger corporations and labor groups was somewhat mixed, with Target saying it wanted to review the decision and "how it will impact our team and business."

"The Court has ruled that my administration cannot use the authority granted to it by Congress to require this measure, but that does not stop me from using my voice as President to advocate for employers to do the right thing to protect Americans’ health and economy," Biden said in the statement. The president said he was "disappointed" that the court blocked "common-sense life-saving requirements for employees at large businesses that were grounded squarely in both science and the law."

Some business operators, facing an ongoing worker shortage, noted fear of losing more employees to vaccination mandates and also cheered the decision.
