US President Joe Biden has vowed to stand by Ukraine after further military funding was excluded from a last-minute budget deal. The 45-day spending bill – pushed through to prevent a government shutdown – did not include its intended $6 billion in military aid for Ukraine. Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy submitted the bill before the deadline in defiance of hard-liners in his party. President Biden remains adamant that Ukraine can still count on US support. “I can reassure them – look at me – we’re going to get it done,” he said.
