The shopping behemoth has committed to using renewable energy to power more than 90 per cent of its sites across the state from July 2022.

Energy Minister Dr Anthony Lynham said under the new agreement signed with government-owned CleanCo, wind and solar energy from Queensland’s Southern Downs and Western Downs would be powering most stores across the state.

Coles CEO Steven Cain said the major change would help Coles’ commitment to becoming “the most sustainable supermarket” and “make a significant contribution to the growth of renewable energy supply in Australia”.
