The big four firms plus Accenture inked just under $1.2 billion in contracts with federal government departments, well below last year.
Government spending on Australia’s top consulting firms was slashed by more than $500 million in 2022-23, and contracts with embattled big four firm PwC slowed to a trickle as the tax scandal heated up.
Accenture took the biggest hit, booking $283 million worth of new work, down from a high watermark $500 million last year. Deloitte followed with $226 million in new contracts, down almost $120 million. Embattled PwC took an $87 million hit, booking $186 million last financial year, but evidence of the fallout from the tax scandal engulfing the firm since February was clear: PwC’s work slowed to almost nothing by June 30.While its competitors were booking up to $30 million in June, PwC secured one contract with the Australian National Audit Office worth just $53,000.
