Thousands of people stand on top of this volcano every day despite its next eruption being just a matter of time. It’s happened before. One week later, the site was opened to the public.

It’s also potentially one of the world’s most dangerous tourist hot spots and residential addresses.

But there’s a significant problem: the next major volcanic eruption on Tangkuban is only a matter of time and will likely come without any warning, according to experts. Picture: Megan Palin.But there are now increased fears over the safety of those on the volcano in light of the– which saw a sudden eruption kill 16 people on the crater – in New Zealand last week. Twelve Australian tourists are believed to be among the dead.

According to volcanologist Janine Krippner, there’s “always a risk” of injury or death on any volcano because they’re all dangerous and science hasn’t advanced enough to forecast eruptions.
