“I’ve had moments where I have stopped and thought ‘what am I doing?’ but this is what the business is about. Times are definitely tough but when the opportunity for a second store in another city came up, we had to jump on it – fast.” “Sydney is our second-biggest market after Melbourne, and it’s growing, so another store had been on the cards for some time,” Bartel says. “It’s still a risk. We have been paying rent since last year and the cost of fitting out a store has certainly risen since last time.”“We know from our customers in Melbourne and visiting from interstate that people want to feel the clothes and experience the environment,” Bartel says.
“We know there is the demand to immerse themselves in the Rebecca Vallance world, but we need to carefully curate a footprint that supports the online and wholesale business. It’s all about the right sites in the right locations at the right time.”By fusing Italian craftsmanship with the Australian lifestyle, Christian Kimber has become part of Melbourne’s establishment.
