A secret police operation has led to the seizure of 2.4 tonnes of cocaine and the arrest of 12 people with connections to a Mexican drug cartel.

The biggest drug bust in Australian history has been pulled off by WA Police after an undercover operation led to the seizure of 2.4 tonnes of cocaine worth about $1 billion dollars.

“Over a number of weeks, our officers from the [AFP] Transnational, Serious and Organised Crime squad and other officers assisted to reconstruct those identical packages, and drop 1.2 tonne of those drugs into the ocean, 40 miles off the coast of Joondalup.”Police Media “Another individual turned up from New South Wales and we will allege he took away 200 kilograms of that 1.2 tonnes. He was then arrested by the Transnational, Serious and Organised Crime squad.”
