Swimmers who usually do laps at dawn at Coogee's ladies-only baths have been frustrated by reduced opening hours that restrict swimming to two hours most weekdays.
For five years, Cathy Wearne has woken before dawn most days to submerge herself in the sea, churning through her morning laps in Coogee's ladies-only baths in Sydney's east.
Pat Poynting has been swimming there for nearly 70 years and said most of the women who arrived before dawn could not swim later due to work or family commitments. She hasn't dipped a toe in the pool for months.Kate Geraghty The 20-metre pool is Australia's last remaining coastal baths for women and children only and is listed with the National Trust.Ms Wearne said a few women had temporarily shifted to the Ross Jones Memorial Pool, also at the southern end of Coogee, where she used to swim before she "fell in love with the women's pool as a better place".
