It’s a marketing technique, and we’re all falling for it.
Paper Tiger; the two specials are both framed as a backlash against outrage culture, with much of the material deliberately designed to offend. provoked the intended reaction, sparking debate across social media, with some viewing the special as a breath of fresh air in a politically correct world, others expressing disappointment in Chappelle.
The “PC culture” narrative, of hysterical keyboard warriors sabotaging comedians who dare step out of line, contradicts itself.
There is, after all, a massive market for that sort of thing. The media is filled with figures who constantly rail against modernity, who express “forbidden” opinions, and use the resulting outrage and attention to increase their audience.
