As part of the preparation for the River Murray event, SA Power Networks commenced a rolling disconnection of various properties from the grid — but some shack owners have received an unexpected supply charge on their power bills.

The extra billing comes from supply charges shack owners say are not applicable if they have been disconnected from the griddue to the risk of flooding so far, a number that could climb to 4,000. He said he was shocked to see a charge for electricity supply when he received his most recent bill and wanted to make sure no-one was paying additional costs unnecessarily.

"We were led to believe that we probably wouldn't get charged the supply charge, but they did, and we had to take action from there."The high river has affected areas of the Riverland and Murraylands differently, with Renmark experiencing lower levels than Morgan.
