Seven people have been arrested in connection with a billion-dollar scam involving false sex abuse claims filed with the NSW government. Police allege a crime syndicate coached former young offenders, inmates, and school students to file the fraudulent claims, using law firms to process them. The alleged scheme involved coaching individuals to make claims for historical child sexual abuse while in care, with an estimated $1.3 billion in claims lodged against the NSW justice and education departments.

Police allege Antonios and other accused claims farmers were instructing complainants who had lodged $1.3 billion worth of claims against the NSW justice and education departments.
The profits were known as “bum money” within the alleged syndicates, and detectives suspect a “significant portion” of the $1.3 billion of the claims made were fake.
