Supporters of the Tamil asylum-seeker family detained on Christmas Island are pleading with the federal government to bring "our little family home" to the Queensland town of Biloela.
A number of Liberal politicians, including MPs Katie Allen and Trent Zimmerman, have now joined calls urging Immigration Minister Alex Hawke to use special consideration powers to grant the family asylum on Australian shores. Ms Dendle said the people of Biloela were not "big activists" but country people looking after one of their own.
Australian Border Force officials took the family from their home in Biloela in 2018, and they have been held on Christmas Island since August 2019.The Murugappan family. Ms Dendle says "the whole bloody system" of seeking asylum is flawed.
