The Home Affairs Minister has dismissed reports the family could be resettled in New Zealand or the US. 9News
Supporters said the family's lawyers had not been contacted about the possibility they could be sent to another country.
"Hope is all they have, and speculative discussions like this can do harm to their mental state and wellbeing. The campaigners for the family said they welcomed reports Immigration Minister Alex Hawke is considering allowing Tharnicaa, who, with her sister, was born in Australia after their parents arrived illegally by boat, to apply for her own refugee visa.
Ms Marugappan said last night doctors were waiting for Tharnicaa's test results and believed they could be sent back to detention on Christmas Island as early as tomorrow. The statement said Tharnicaa had been seen by an infectious disease specialist, but there were "still no answers to how she contracted untreated pneumonia that caused her blood infection".
