The University of Queensland will partner with biotechnology giant Moderna to create vaccines to tackle the world’s greatest global public health threats.

Australian scientists will be at the centre of efforts to wipe out a raft of deadly diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, Japanese encephalitis and HIV by developing new-age vaccines that could go from laboratory to human trials within 100 days.

“This partnership will allow us access to Moderna’s technology to target diseases that have the potential to emerge as a future pandemic and diseases that are already a problem in low- and middle-income countries, like dengue, malaria, tuberculosis and Zika virus,” Professor Young said. The IP for technologies developed through the program will be made available to developing nations for free.“We will allow developing countries to keep our IP. We are very determined to make a difference to global world health.“
