Dwayne Johnson confirms that his plan for Black Adam's DCEU future 'absolutely' includes fighting Superman: 'That is the whole point of this man.'
The Rock confirms that he will absolutely fight Superman in the DC Extended Universe after Black Adam. The DCEU began in 2013 with Henry Cavill's Man of Steel, but Dwayne Johnson has been trying to play Black Adam for even longer. Audiences are now only a few weeks away from finally seeing Black Adam, the final DC movie of 2022. It is here that Johnson makes his DCEU debut as Black Adam alongside members of the Justice Society of America.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY For nearly as long as Johnson has been attached to play Black Adam, the actor has hyped the potential big-screen encounter between him and Superman. The direct teases of Superman and Black Adam meeting in the DCEU can be dated back to late 2016, when Cavill posted an image with Johnson teasing their excitement for the future.
Absolutely. That is the whole point of this man. Thank you for asking that. And I have been saying for some time, there's a new era in the DC Universe that's about to begin. And what I meant by that was introducing a brand new character. It's not a sequel, not an existing IP. It was...you know, Black Adam! Two years ago the world had no idea who he was. We did, but not, you know, the rest of the mass out there. Introducing the JSA, introducing that new era of the DC universe.
The Rock's Black Adam/Superman Fight Promise Is Great For DC Even though Johnson has continued to express his own interest in Black Adam fighting Superman for years, his latest quote comes with more confidence than normal that the two will meet. This is a great sign for the DCEU overall, especially were Black Adam and Superman's individual futures are concerned.
The plan for a Black Adam and Superman fight is also likely to be a huge win for Cavill's Superman return and the vast following his Man of Steel has. Warner Bros. has not used him since 2017's Justice League, leaving one of DC's biggest characters on the sideline for nearly five years due to contract disagreements. The DCEU has only made his absence worse with the faceless Superman cameos in Shazam! and Peacemaker.
