'The girl boss-ified affirmation practices on social media can't compete with the realities of being a Black woman in an anti-Black society.'
I deserve good things. That sentiment sounds simple enough, but as someone who's survived multiple assaults and traumas throughout my life, I didn't realize how little I thought I deserved until I started repeating this affirmation every morning. Using this four-word phrase every day has helped me to stay motivated when working towards my goals, like navigating dating better and moving into my first one-bedroom apartment. I'd turned positive words into manifestation on my own terms.

, I am both optimistic and saddened. Saddened because so many of us believe that good things are out of reach due to oppressive systems and, but optimistic because I see a growing sense of community in my Black brothers, sisters, and siblings. We deserve good things.
