Blackburn's homeless pods so that no one is on the streets during this freezing winter
Backdated planning permission is set to be granted for a set of homeless pods to protect Blackburn with Darwen’s rough sleepers through the winter.
Residents will be provided with food parcels. Staff supporting those living in the pods will seek to find them some form of permanent accommodation by spring.Thursday’s meeting of Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council planning committee has been recommended to give part-retrospective planning permission for the ten sleeping pods and two dining cabins which will remain until March next year.
“All 12 pods are already in place and the application is therefore partly-retrospective The pods have been arranged in a linear formation with the diner pods positioned to the east edge of the site. Abdul Razaq, Director of Public Health said he welcomes the funding to keep the facilities up and running this winter. He said: “Homelessness is an issue that we are addressing positively and reducing the number of people on the streets is about making sure that we have the facilities for the health and wellbeing and welfare of those who need our support.
