The Government is closing a loophole in the law that allows businesses to give free vaping samples to children
Action to tighten controls over the sale of vaping products to children has been welcomed by Blackpool’s health boss after new research revealed the extent of vaping in the resort.
Now the government has announced a crackdown on the targeting of young people by unscrupulous traders. It is hoped tightening the law will give trading standards officers more powers to issue on-the-spot fines and fixed penalty notices to shops which sell vapes to under-age people.
“Vaping is not a risk free alternative particularly for those who have never smoked and we do not yet know the long-term effects of vaping on health. Anyone who sells cigarettes or vape products containing nicotine or tobacco to under-18s, or buys them on behalf of anyone under 18, is breaking the law.”
