Numerous states are facing Blizzard and Winter Storm Warnings as high winds, blowing snowfall and icy temperatures are impacting millions of Americans.

Anyone living in the area is"advised to avoid travel if possible as the situation will become life-threatening if vehicles are stranded," the NWS said. Plans for the activation of emergency severe weather shelters sit in bins at a warehouse in Portland, Oregon, on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2022, as officials open four such shelters in advance of an unusually cold weather system and ice storm.
