BLM issues fire restrictions on federal lands near Fox and the NOAA facility site on the Steese Highway effective tonight at midnight.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Bureau of Land Management has issued fire restrictions on federal lands in fire-prone areas of black spruce near Fox and at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration facility site on the Steese Highway.

According to the BLM Fairbanks District Office the fire prevention order prohibits campfires, fireworks, and explosives. The order goes into effect Wednesday, June 7 at midnight and will last until October 31 or until the order is rescinded. The order is to ensure public safety and protect nearby property and residences north of Fairbanks in the Gilmore Trail and Brier Road area.

BLM said, “This is the sixth consecutive summer the fire order has been used to restrict open fires in this area after numerous unattended bonfires led to concerns that an escaped fire could threaten local residences, as well as the NOAA facility on Gilmore Creek.”
