A friend of a man accused of killing his ex-girlfriend said he saw blood on the stairs and the woman’s unresponsive body in the shower.
A friend found Maryam Hamka with a swollen face and yellowish skin in the bathroom of her ex-boyfriend’s townhouse after spotting blood-spattered carpet.
On Monday, the accused killer’s former friend, Oscar Newman, told jurors in Victoria’s Supreme Court that he went to the Brighton townhouse after Loughnane called and texted him, asking him to come over. He said there also appeared to be blood on the bottom steps and thought there might have been more on the wall, but wasn’t “100 per cent sure it was blood”.
Newman said he believed that Hamka was still in the bathroom when he arrived at Loughnane’s home on April 12.“It crossed my mind that he’d have to move the body,” Newman told the court, and added that he also gave Loughnane $150.He later said he returned to the house and there were signs the stairs had been cleaned.
