The Blue Jays DFA'd pitcher Anthony Bass a day after he expanded on his apology for posting an anti-LGBTQ+ video on his social media. His presence on the roster had left many fans conflicted about their support for the club.
The Blue Jays chose to DFA Bass a day after he expanded on his apology for posting an anti-LGBTQ+ video on his social media more than a week ago. However, he continued to defend his “personal beliefs” and suggested the reason he took the video down was that it had become a “distraction.
In the countermove to DFA Bass, the Blue Jays reinstated reliever White, who had been out since spring training with right elbow inflammation. White will be active for Friday’s game, and he is expected to step into a bulk role in the bullpen. White has no minor-league options left, so he couldn’t be optioned to the minors once he was activated. Bass has been a weak link in the bullpen and was a DFA candidate strictly from a baseball point of view, as well.
