BMW's M4 CSL has broken cover with a 100kg weight reduction, 542bhp and an acute focus on ultimate handling capability. Has BMW finally built something to truly rival a 911 GT3?
CSL has a lot to live up to. The Competition, Sport, Lightweight lineage makes sporadic, infrequent appearances, perhaps putting all the more pressure on the spec sheet of each car deemed worthy of the badge.
Carbon-ceramic brakes are standard, cutting another 14.3kg despite their behemoth size while CFRP makes plentiful appearances across the bodywork, with the bonnet, boot lid, rear diffuser and side sills made of the stuff in addition to the roof, as per all M4s. Those stripes running through this car’s Frozen Brooklyn Grey paintwork are unpainted carbon, complemented by gaudy red piping to ensure you don’t miss them.
