The Crown land managers believe the NSW government is set to dump the fully funded walkway so Marine Rescue NSW can build a proposed unfunded training facility.

The government-appointed managers of prime waterfront land in Sydney’s south have resigned en masse in protest of the potential axing of a long-promised $7 million boardwalk extension to a spectacular seacliff track.

“We’ve got the money, we’re fully funded. We’ve done all that and then all of a sudden, they’ve said it’s too dangerous,” said board member Byron Hurst, who compared the walk to the Bondi to Coogee track. “The walkway without going around the peninsula doesn’t make much sense.

“We can’t understand it because there’s a perceived conflict between pedestrians and very occasional vehicles,” Hurst said. “We just want to get the reserve up and running for community enjoyment.”The trustees said they’re disappointed that Marine Rescue NSW initially expressed support for the track, only to oppose its extension once they became the sole tenants of the site.

The track around the foreshore of Hungry Point reserve would create a full loop for the seacliff track.“Any proposed walkway needs to consider the operational requirements of Marine Rescue NSW, including access to the Marine Rescue NSW wharf, any traffic impacts and the safety and security of pedestrians,” Kamper said.
