It was sweet victory for the Scottish star, having finished as runner-up to Rory McIlroy in the Scottish Open 12 months ago.
Bob MacIntyre played out an epic final day battle with Adam Scott to achieve his childhood dream by winning the Scottish Open title on the final hole.
MacIntyre had gone into the final day of play at the Renaissance Club just two shots off the leader after a brilliant display in the third round on Saturday with a score of 63. With his dad Dougie - who famously helped his son win at the Canadian Open earlier this season - watching on, the Oban star remained in the hunt to win the trophy until the very last hole with a couple of birdie shots that kept him right on Scott's tail.
MacIntyre was given a big break on the 16th hole when he was given a free drop to put the ball in a more favourable position because he was found to be standing on a sprinkler in the rough. However he followed up that stroke of fortune with a super shot from the rough that saw him claim an eagle going into the final two holes with another fine put. MacIntyre becomes the first Scot to win his national open since Colin Montgomerie in 1999.
Scott handed the 27-year-old a lifeline by missing out on a birdie on the 18th and faced an anxious wait to see if he had done enough to get his hands on the trophy. MacIntyre had missed out on the crown in agonising circumstances to Rory McIlroy last year but showed true class to keep his cool and sink his final put to claim the title by just a single shot.
MacIntyre will once again have the advantage of a home crowd when he takes part in the The 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon next weekend. At the renowned Ayrshire course, current world number one Scottie Scheffler is on course for seventh TOUR title of the calendar year while Fifteen-time major champion Tiger Woods is also expected to compete.
