The 23-year-old has bounced back from the toughest times of his life to salute for Collingwood.
“To everyone at the Collingwood Football Club, thank you for making me and my family welcome here,” Hill said.A high-flying speccy over Brandon Starcevich for his third goal went down as Hill’s greatest highlight on the day but the path to premiership glory is one to savour.Hill’s career was put on hold in May 2022 when he was diagnosed with cancer during his time with the GWS Giants.
After undergoing surgery he sought a move home to Victoria - for the second straight year, having been denied a move to Essendon at the end of 2021 - and landed at Collingwood.Cleared to return to the field, Hill made his Pies debut in Round 1 this year and made an instant impact with three goals in a win over Geelong.
“Coming to Collingwood, they made me feel at home. To come back from that, it’s a credit to my family.” He held his place in the side throughout the year and has now recorded one of the greatest grand final performances by a small forward in recent memory. His triumph also comes just months after mourning the loss of close family friend Sam, the sister of Carlton star and former GWS teammate Zac Williams.She had already beaten cancer once before when she learned in December 2021 that it had returned.
