Boeing and Kratos Defense and Security Solutions have agreed to work together on a new kit that turns gravity bombs into cheap cruise missiles.
Kratos Defense and Security Solutions and Boeing have announced a Memorandum of Understanding for a new "bolt-on" kit that can turn a 500-lb "dumb" bomb into a precision cruise missile. The kit is called the, PJDAM for short, and consists of a guidance system, GPS navigation, seeker sensors, and a tail-mounted steering system.
The proposal has stalled in recent years but has got a new boost thanks to the new Memorandum of Understanding with Kratos that will see its TDI-J85 turbine engine integrated into the package. This engine can produce 200 lbs of thrust.
