Boeing is developing the Starliner spacecraft as part of NASA's Commercial Crew Program.

The company announced Thursday that pre-flight reviews found an issue with its parachute system and discovered flammable tape. Boeing had been targeting July 21 for its first crewed flight.

Boeing is developing the Starliner spacecraft as part of NASA's Commercial Crew Program, through which companies own and operate the spacecraft trusted to ferry astronauts to the International Space Station. SpaceX is also part of this program and began launching astronauts three years ago. The SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft has since carried 38 people into space, a mixture of NASA missions and those planned by other paying customers.

Boeing and NASA did not say when the crewed launch might proceed, though this year is still plausible.
