The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has ordered Boeing to inspect oxygen masks in thousands of its planes amid fears it could fail during an emergency.

The FAA has received reports the passenger service unit oxygen generators are moving out of its position, meaning it could limit the supply of air in a depressurisation event. The company confirmed some of the oxygen generators had moved out of place - up to almost two centimetres - after the introduction of a new adhesive to the straps in 2019.

"The families felt like they were completely brushed aside and ignored by the government: the very people they trusted to do the right thing, and hold Boeing to account," attorney Erin Applebaum from Kreindler and Kreindler, said.
