Friday night's clash between MHSsportszone and BollesSchool at Skinner-Barco Stadium more than lived up to expectations.
Bolles fell behind entering halftime after the Mustangs surged to three first half scores. But the Bulldogs held Mandarin scoreless in the second half and grinded away at the visitors’ stamina.
The halftime adjustments by the Bulldogs kept Mandarin’s offense stagnant and limited the impact of their star players. “There are times when we walk off the field the first thing we talk about is, ‘oh we’re going to watch the film, oh we’re going to get better’ but I do not care about that right now,” he said during a fired up postgame speech. “Right now, I care about you understanding you were in a game where you had to make plays. Where if you don’t, they win the game and they’re celebrating after this. You found a way when you needed to.
Jones carved the Bolles defense in the first half, finding the open receiver and giving them catchable passes. They did everything necessary in the first half to put themselves in a position to compete out of the locker room. They just couldn’t find answers in the second half.
