The House has already passed the bill on a bipartisan vote. The bill has more than 42 cosponsors in the Senate, including 16 Republicans. We need a little support from New Jersey’s Congressional delegation to get it across the finish line before the session closes at the end of the year.
Here’s why the bill makes sense for New Jersey: We can build upon the locally driven and collaborative successes that have been the hallmark of New Jersey Fish and Wildlife. For decades, the agency has done innovative work with the fees and taxes paid by hunters and anglers to restore game and fish species, like ruffed grouse, and to improve and maintain and create habitat on state-owned properties.
That’s where the Recovering America’s Wildlife Act comes in. It prioritizes proactive, local collaboration and innovation to save the full diversity of wildlife, rather than waiting for species to decline to the point where federal regulatory mechanisms are needed. It’s the ultimate ounce of prevention. The $10 million annually for New Jersey would unleash a new era of conservation for American kestrels, red-headed woodpeckers, and tiger salamanders as well as dozens of other species.
