Booster mandate a possibility for NSW healthcare workers | Rabe9 HatAlexander
The NSW government has left open the possibility of mandating COVID-19 boosters for healthcare workers, but Health Minister Brad Hazzard says he’s still hesitant to impose the measure.
However, he added that if ATAGI recommended the measure, the government would need to reconsider the mandate for healthcare workers.
“Everything logical tells you that if you’ve had two, why not three [vaccinations], but the government has also been saying Omicron is not as deadly, so everyone is hearing two messages.” The state recorded 7893 new cases of COVID-19, 2321 hospitalisations and 28 deaths on Sunday, as infections from the Omicron wave declined to their lowest level since December.
“If we have almost 95 per cent of people in NSW, double-dosed, and we’ve got a little less than 45 per cent of people who’ve had the booster, what’s happening to the other 50 per cent. Why aren’t they out about getting their boosters?” he said.
