COVID-19 booster vaccines have proven to be highly effective at preventing Omicron related infections and hospitalisations, according to studies from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In comparison, a double-dose vaccination was only 38 per cent effective at preventing visits to emergency rooms and urgent care centres when it had been at least six months past the second shot., showed unvaccinated adults had five times higher risk of infection compared to adults who had received a booster shot.
"Taken together, these data highlight two important points," CDC Director Rochelle Walensky told a White House press briefing on Friday. "Second, protection against infection and hospitalisation with the Omicron variant is highest for those who are up to date with their vaccination, meaning those who are boosted when they are eligible.
