Boris Johnson reveals how close he came to dying | latikambourke
The 55-year-old is recuperating at Chequers – the British Prime Minister’s official country retreat – in Buckinghamshire after leaving hospital on Easter Sunday, one week after being admitted for what Downing Street claimed were “routine tests”.
"I have today left hospital after a week in which the NHS has saved my life, no question," he said. "It's hard to find the words to express my debt."Johnson thanked his medical team, but singled out two foreign nurses, Jenny from Invercargill, New Zealand and Luis from near Porto in Portugal, who he said stood by his bedside for 48 hours "when things could have gone either way".
In separate messages sent via Twitter, Johnson’s pregnant fiancee Carrie Symonds said she would "never stop thanking" the magnificent NHS staff. However, Hancock said the health system still had more capacity than it did when coronavirus first hit Britain’s shores, with 2295 critical care beds available and a total 9775 ventilators. He said those figures did not include new pop-up Nightingale hospitals being built around the country.
